Before You Measure

Look at your window and decide whether you want to mount the treatment inside the window recess or outside the window on the wall or molding. Although an inside mount is usually preferred, an outside mount can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window.

Note: All measurements should be to the nearest 1/8". For inside mount on unsquare windows, use the narrowest width and the longest height (for verticals, use the shortest height).

MINI BLINDS, WOOD BLINDS, PLEATED SHADES AND CELLULAR SHADES

Inside or Outside Mount?
In addition to your personal preference, consider that for an inside mount, your casing must have a minimum depth of 1 1/2" for 1" blinds, and 2 1/2" for 2" blinds.

Inside Mount Measure the exact inside width and length of the window opening between jambs. As some windows may not be a perfect square, measure in at least three locations for both length and width. Record the shortest width dimension and the longest length dimension. Do not take any deductions for clearance. The factory will allow for 1/2" total width clearance for mini and wood blinds. The factory will allow 3/8" total clearance for pleated and cellular shades.
Outside Mount Used for shallow window casings, door mounts and custom looks. Measure the exact outside width and length from molding to molding. To overlap the window, we recommend that you add 3" to your width and length measurements. No allowances will be made at the factory.

VERTICAL BLINDS

For verticals to be installed inside an area jamb to jamb in window or door (wall to wall in a room) give exact inside width measurements, and top to bottom measurements of the area to be covered. Measure your windows carefully with a wooden ruler or steel tape.

DO NOT USE A CLOTH TAPE MEASURE.

Outside Mount Verticals

Measure the exact width and length of the area to be covered. When measuring to cover a window or door, add at least 6" to the opening width for overlap (3" on each side), and 3" to the opening height (length measurement) for mounting track above window.

No allowances will be made by the factory for outside mount verticals. They will be made to your exact width and length measurements, mark your measurements "OUTSIDE MOUNT".

Measuring Instructions for Outside Mount

Note: All measurements should be to the nearest 1/8".

A) Measure the width in 3 places. Add 1 5/8" to the largest dimension and order this width size.

B) Measure the inside height in 3 places. Add 1 5/8" to the largest dimension and order this height size.

Note: The additional 1 5/8" must be added to both dimensions to allow for mounting of frame.

A) Measure the width in 3 places from the outer edge of molding. Order the largest width dimension.

B) Measure the height in 3 places from the outer edge of molding. Order the largest height dimension.

Note: The size ordered includes the frame.

A) Measure the width in 3 places. Add 2 1/8" to the largest dimension and order this width size.

B) Measure the height in 3 places from the outer edge of molding. Add 2 1/8" to the largest dimension and order this height size.

Note: The additional 2 1/8" must be added to both dimensions so the frame will clear the molding on all sides. Filler strip kit will be needed to clear Louvers.

Mount on flat wall surface or on flat portion of window trim.  When mounting beyond window trim, filler strip kit will be required for Louver clearance since the frame is only 1 1/4" deep.  The filler strip kit will provide an additional 11/16" projection from mounting surface.  If the framed shutter set width or height is greater than 48", two kits will be required.

NOTE: A depth of 1 3/4"" is needed for an inside mount to be installed flush with the surrounding wall. This depth is not necessary if the shutter is to protrude slightly from the window opening.

A) Measure the width in 3 places and order the smallest width dimension

B) Measure the inside height in 3 places and order the smallest height dimension

C) Light stops will be shipped for optional use

D) Reminder: Do not take any allowances. The manufacturer will make all allowances for the 1 5/8" deluxe hanging strips when manufacturing your shutter set. All measurement should be to the nearest 1/8"
